gearing up for spring

image post

After lunch today, Lillian and I made our first (of many) trip to Abide-A-While Garden Center to stock up on plants for our veggie garden. I brought home $33 Abide-A-Bucks, if that tells you anything about how much we spent. But that included two watering cans and a sun hat for Lillian (which I ended up wearing, naturally), so it won’t all be gone at the end of the season!

I only put in three tomato plants this year (one cherry and two special varieties – a green zebra and yellow/red variegated) since I’m the only one who eats them, and a couple different pepper plants. Lillian helped me pick out some really pretty Dahlias and a few unique flowers (can’t remember them at the moment, will post more detail later for posterity), and I spent 2.5 hours putting everything in.

Tomorrow we’ll get the seeds in the ground for beans, squash, and cantaloupe. And maybe a trip to Lowes for a few more flowers.
